Braces - A Long-Term Solution

At Olmsted Orthodontics, we offer braces as an effective solution for straightening teeth and addressing dental concerns. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Gradual Process: Braces work over time, typically requiring 18 months to a few years to align teeth properly. Patience leads to lasting results.
  • Versatile Corrections: We use braces to correct crooked or crowded teeth and bite issues, addressing a wide range of dental concerns.
  • Adjustment Period: Braces and adjustments can cause mild discomfort initially, but most patients adapt quickly.
  • Style Options: We offer traditional metal braces or less noticeable clear braces, both equally effective for treatment.
  • Improved Oral Health: Beyond aesthetics, braces correct bite issues, making teeth easier to clean and reducing the risk of cavities.
  • Durable Outcomes: Braces provide a long-lasting, healthy smile with proper care after treatment.

Braces require commitment but deliver significant benefits for your smile and dental health. At Olmsted Orthodontics, we’re here to guide you through the process for optimal results.

Invisalign®: Your Fun, Easy Way to Straighten Teeth

At Olmsted Orthodontics, we offer Invisalign® as a modern alternative to traditional metal braces for straightening teeth. Using clear plastic aligners that fit over your teeth, Invisalign® gently shifts them into alignment. Here’s why it could be a great option:

  • Discreet Appearance: The clear aligners are nearly invisible, allowing you to straighten your teeth without drawing attention.
  • Customized Fit: We create each aligner specifically for your teeth, following a personalized treatment plan designed to achieve your desired results.
  • Removable Design: The aligners can be removed for eating, brushing, or flossing, making it easier to maintain oral hygiene without the challenges of brackets and wires.
  • Comfortable Wear: Made from smooth plastic, Invisalign® aligners are gentle on your mouth, avoiding the irritation sometimes caused by metal braces.
  • Efficient Treatment: Many patients complete Invisalign® treatment in 12 to 18 months, often faster than traditional braces, depending on the case.
  • Simplified Oral Care: Removable aligners make brushing and flossing straightforward, helping you keep your teeth and gums healthy during treatment.

Invisalign® offers a convenient, discreet, and comfortable way to straighten your smile. At Olmsted Orthodontics, we’re here to guide you through the process and ensure effective results tailored to your needs.

Brushing and Flossing Techniques

Brushing and flossing are pretty important for keeping our teeth clean. It’s not just about brushing for a few seconds. We must do it correctly so our teeth and gums stay healthy. Here is how we can do it:

  • Brushing: Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to avoid harming your gums. Brush for two minutes, dividing your mouth into four sections and spending 30 seconds on each. Hold the brush at a 45-degree angle to your gums, using gentle, small circular motions. Avoid harsh scrubbing, which can damage enamel. Brush your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen your breath.
  • Flossing: Use about 18 inches of floss, wrapping it around your fingers. Gently slide it between your teeth, moving it up and down without snapping, to protect your gums. Flossing removes plaque and food particles from areas brushing can’t reach. Aim to floss once daily, ideally before brushing.
  • Routine: Brush twice daily and floss at least once. Taking just a few minutes, these habits help prevent cavities, gum disease, and other issues.

Why Mouthguards Are Essential

At Olmsted Orthodontics, we recommend mouthguards for anyone involved in sports or active pursuits. They shield teeth from impacts, preventing chips, fractures, or injuries to lips and cheeks during activities like basketball, football, or martial arts. Mouthguards offer a straightforward way to stay safe while enjoying your favorite activities.

We provide several mouthguard options:

  • Ready-Made: Convenient and budget-friendly, though the fit may not be ideal.
  • Boil-and-Bite: Softened in hot water and shaped to your teeth for improved comfort.
  • Custom-Fit: Designed specifically for you by our team, ensuring maximum protection and comfort, though they cost more.

Mouthguards also help absorb jaw impacts and may lower concussion risks. Wearing one is a simple step to protect your oral health and keep you confident in action. We’re here to help you find the best mouthguard for your needs.
